Repair or Replace? How to Decide
A simple way to decide whether fixing your phone is worth it — or if it's time to upgrade.
When your phone breaks, the first question is usually: should I fix it or just buy a new one? Here's how we think about it.
Repair usually makes sense when…
- The phone is less than about four years old and still gets software updates.
- The repair costs less than half the price of a comparable phone.
- You're otherwise happy with it — storage, camera and speed are fine.
Replacement might be better when…
- The phone no longer gets security updates.
- It has several problems at once (screen, battery and port).
- You've been wanting an upgrade anyway.
Don't forget the hidden costs of replacing
A new phone often means a new case, a new screen protector, and time spent setting it up. A repair keeps everything exactly the way you like it — and keeps another phone out of the landfill.
